Various cultural activities are held in the Armazém da Utopia, such as music, cinema, and theater festivals, exhibitions, lectures, research, and theatrical performances. The property, which belongs to the Union, was abandoned for years and, in 2010, came under the management of the Ensaio Aberto Institute. Until 2015, the Armazém da Utopia suffered threats of eviction, but social movements guaranteed the cultural space’s occupation of the building.
The unique architecture, characterized by its original steel structure and exposed brick walls, preserves the memory of its past as a port building, when it was used as a warehouse for goods in transit.
