Light Cultural Center

The Light Cultural Center belongs to the private business of the same name, which provides electricity to the city of Rio and a large part of the rest of the Baixada Fluminense region. It hosts a permanent exposition by the celebrated modernist painter, Di Cavalcanti, with four panels of his work, “Composição Rio.” The painting was commissioned by the journalist, Samuel Wainer, who ran the newspaper, Última Hora, and it adorned the newsroom until 1970.

Beyond the paintings, the Cultural Center also includes the playful and interactive Museum of Energy, the Lamartine Babo Theater, and two galleries which house electricity-themed exhibitions. The historical collection is composed of documents, photos, videos, slides, instruments, maps, and blueprints that chronicle the services Light has provided for Rio de Janeiro since the beginning of the 20th century.
