Inaugurated in November 2016, the Rio de Janeiro Marine Aquarium is the largest of its kind in South America, with 26-thousand square meters of constructed area, 4.5 million liters of water, and 8-thousand animals from 350 different species on exhibition.
In the same area are the Center of Environmental Education and the Center of Scientific Research, which, through the management and maintenance of the animals in captivity, produces scientific research in various areas of biology and veterinary science in partnership with universities and research centers.
