The Banco do Brasil Cultural Center (CCBB) in Rio de Janeiro occupies a building constructed in 1906 to headquarter the Business Association of Rio de Janeiro. In the 1920s, it passed ownership to Banco do Brasil, which turned it into a cultural center at the end of the 80s.
Inaugurated on October 12th, 1989, CCBB Rio de Janeiro transformed into a center of reference for cultural activities. CCBB holds the commemorative plaque of the first Banco do Brasil, founded in 1808 by Dom João VI (and which filed for bankruptcy in 1829), as well as the exhibitions “O Banco do Brasil e Sua História” and “Galeria de Valores,” which tell the story of currency in Brazil and in the world.
